DAY 2LIMA – CITY TOUR (Shared service)

In the morning, explore Lima´s old area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with fascinating historic buildings. Start with a scenic tour in the colonial downtown, which radiates from the Main Square, where you can appreciate the grandiose architecture of the Spanish Empire. Stroll over to the Cathedral, which was begun in the 16th century and took 80 years to build. Then visit the Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion granted in 1535 by chief conquistador Francisco Pizarro to Jerónimo de Aliaga, one of his captains. This is the only house from that time that still belongs to the same family after all these centuries.

Continue to Larco Museum, located in the traditional Pueblo Libre district, which is housed in a beautifully restored viceregal mansion built on a seventh-century a pre-Columbian pyramid. The museum boasts the most complete pre-Hispanic collection of gold and silver artefacts, as well as pieces of erotic art.

DAY 3LIMA – AREQUIPA

A transportation service will pick you up from your hotel at the established time and will transfer you to the airport in Lima. (Includes the assistance of an English speaking representative).

Upon your arrival in Arequipa, a transportation will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to your hotel. There will also be a guide who will tell you about the city’s attractions and services and finally assist you with your check-in.

In the Afternoon pick up from your hotel in Arequipa, your tour starts at the Main Square, one of the most beautiful squares in Peru, which is located next to the impressive Arequipa Cathedral, built in the 17th century and fully rebuilt after several earthquakes. Then you will go to the Monastery of Saint Catherine, built in 1579, which is an authentic medieval cloister and a small religious citadel used to date. You will then visit the Church of the Society of Jesus (1590), considered a classic example of the local baroque architecture, which houses an exceptional collection of paintings and murals. You will end the tour visiting the Yanahuara and Carmen Alto districts, to have a scenic view of Arequipa’s countryside.

DAY 4AREQUIPA – COLCA VALLEY (Shared service)

A day filled with beautiful sights. You leave the city via Yura, a district characterised by its rugged scenery, hills and ravines. You enter Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plain where you can see vicuñas, the indigenous Andean camelid that is a national symbol. Then to Vizcachani, Pampas de Toccra, up to the crater of the volcano Chucura and on to Mirador de los Andes at Patapampa (4800 m.a.s.l.) where the volcanoes surrounding Arequipa can be seen. Lunch will be served in the village of Chivay and in the afternoon you can rest in the hotel, or visit the local thermal springs.

DAY 5AREQUIPA-COLCA CANYON-PUNO (Shared service)

A new day for visual delights. Visit Cruz del Cóndor to see the Colca Valley (the second deepest canyon in the world, more than 4 kilometres at its deepest part) and the juge and majestic condor flying a few metres away. You will visit the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, Yanque and the vantage points at Antahuilque and Choquetico, on your return to Chivay. From here you will leave for Puno taking the turn-off to Patahuasi. More great beauty: petrified forests, blue lakes populated by flamingoes at more than 4,000 metres above sea level. You reach Puno after six hours.

DAY 6PUNO-UROS & AMANTANI ISLANDS (Shared service)

Our guide will pick you up from the hotel in Puno very early in the morning, to take a two-hour motor excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating “Islands” of the Uros. The Uros are an ancient culture that inhabits a series of artificial islands built on the basis of reeds growing in the lake itself. These are constructed by weaving reed in the areas where it grows thicker and thus forming a natural layer. On it, they build their houses and cook outdoors in order to prevent fires.

After having experienced some of the ancient traditions of the local people, you continue your motorboat trip to Amantani Island. This island is inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives still governed by their ancient traditions, whose main occupations are the production of ceramics and textiles. The positive energy of this Island is so powerful that it is known as the “Love Island”. Lunch. Upon arrival to the island, accommodation and overnight at the house of a local islander to enjoy the hospitality of a typical Amantani home. Dinner included.

DAY 7PUNO – TAQUILE ISLAND (Shared service)

After breakfast, you have time to stroll at leisure through the quaint streets of this colourful island. Late morning, you take a motor-boat to Taquile Island, also inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand weaving techniques, down through the generations. It is necessary to go up a stairway of more than 567 steps-streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms to arrive at the Town of Taquile where we will have a break to eat. By the afternoon, you will return to Puno and in the evening you will arrive at the hotel.

DAY 8PUNO – CUSCO (Shared service)

A transportation service will pick you up from your hotel at the established time and you will be transferred to the bus station, where you will be assisted by a representative. During the morning you will be transferred from Puno to Cusco by bus, passing by spectacular locations on the way such as the town of Andahuaylillas, The Temple of Wiracocha and La Raya, the limit between Cusco and Puno over 4313 masl. The bus has a heating system, guides in English and Spanish, TV / Video, interactive video of the route, GPS, free WiFi, hot drinks on the way (subject to request) and lunch buffet in a local restaurant.

A transportation service with a guide will pick you up at the bus station when you arrive in Cusco and will transfer you to your hotel.

In the morning, pick up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley. Your tour begins in the Sacred Valley begins with the visit to Awanakancha (“The palace of fabrics”), South American textile and camelid exhibition centre located at kilometre 23 of the track towards Pisac. It is considered a living museum and you can see Andean camelids, learn the techniques to work the wool and acquire finely spun garments. From there, head to the Taray viewpoint from where you have a fantastic view of the Valley. Later, visit the archaeological complex of Pisac, one of the most important of the Inca Empire. At the end of this visit, descend to the market of Pisac where its inhabitants offer products of crafts, weaving, goldsmith work and more. Have lunch at a local restaurant and then head towards the Ollantaytambo Fortress, a huge Inca construction and one of the most recognisable sites in the Sacred Valley. After exploring this complex, head to the town of Chinchero, making a stop at the Raqchi viewpoint on the way. Chinchero is a picturesque town known for its markets of excellent craftsmanship and ancient agricultural terraces. Finally, you are transferred to your hotel in Cusco or escort to the bus station in Ollantaytambo.

In the afternoon , pick up from your hotel in Cusco, You will start your tour visiting the Coricancha, also known as “The Temple of the Sun” (Quri Kancha ‘Golden Temple’), which was built by the Inca Pachacutec and at the arrival of the Spaniards became the basis for the construction of the Santo Domingo Convent. Here, during the Inca Empire reverence was surrendered to the sun (“Inti”), and there was a time when it was covered with gold. Then visit the Cathedral, the most imposing monument in the Plaza de Armas. Its construction began in 1560 and ended only in 1654. For this purpose, hundreds of stones were extracted and transported from Sacsayhuaman fortress under the command of the Ecclesiastical Council.

You will continue your tour to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, one of the most emblematic buildings of the Incas (located just minutes from town centre) built by the Inca Pachacutec in the fifteenth century. This is a huge fortress built with large stones whose transportation remains still a mystery. Each June 24th, during the winter solstice, the feast of Inti Raymi is recreated here, where the sun is worshipped. Continue to Quenqo, located 4 kilometres from the city of Cusco. Quenqo is an archaeological complex of mainly religious use where it is believed agricultural rituals were performed. Finally get to know Puka Pucara, located 7 kilometres from the city of Cusco. Puka Pucara, which means “Red Fortress”, was an architectural complex of alleged military use with multiple spaces, plazas, baths, aqueducts, walls and towers, and it is believed the entourage of the Inca used it while he rested in Tambomachay. Return to the hotel.

DAY 11CUSCO- MACHU PICCHU (Shared service)

In the morning you will have a transfer from your hotel in Cusco to Ollantaytambo train station. Then your tour to Machu Picchu begins with a train ride to Aguas Calientes in approximately two hours. This town is also known as “Machu Picchu Pueblo” and is the last stop before the entrance to the remains of the most important archaeological site in Peru.
In Aguas Calientes, you will find the railway station, a crafts market, restaurants and accommodation of different categories for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb it early. Finally, after a short transfer by bus from Aguas Calientes you will reach Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that is believed served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca Pachacutec (1438 – 1572).

Machu Picchu, which means “Old Mountain”, is considered a World Heritage by UNESCO and one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Once in the citadel, you may optionally also visit the Intipunku (Sun Gate), the Wayna Picchu (subject to space availability) and the Inca Bridge. In the afternoon return by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and by bus from there to your Cusco hotel.
